Dear Ashley,
I hope you had a wonderful week with your family and friends.   Do you have any plans for celebrating the New Year?  I had a very nice Christmas. I spent Christmas Day at my brother's house and got a chance to see my nephew whom I haven't seen for over 3 years. He was in the U.S. Marines.  So that was a real treat.  For Christmas, I received a grand total of $150.00 cash and a new wallet to put it in!  lol    I also had a lot of good food.  So overall it was a very nice Christmas.
I also got another very nice treat for Christmas. I went to Wal Mart shopping with my Christmas money and guess what I found.....a VHS video of "Child Star: The Shirley Temple Story!"  Ever heard of it?  lol I was so happy to find it and it was great to be able to see your movie again. I enjoyed watching it even more this time than I did the first time because now I actually know the star!  I love that movie so much. Your performance throughout the film was magnificent and your incredible portrayal of Shirley Temple was absolutely enchanting.   The song and dance numbers were so faithfully and realistically recreated.   There were so many scenes in which it was almost as if I was watching the real Shirley Temple.  You were wonderful.  It must be a great honor for you to have played the greatest child star of all time!  How many girls auditioned for the role?    I really think you are one of the most
talented and gifted child stars I have ever seen and I hope you will have many more roles in the future. Casting Directors would be crazy not to take notice of your abilities.   Maybe someday they will be making a movie about YOU and your life & career!   I only hope I'm not too old to watch!  lol
I have also visited your Official website and it looks very cool. Keep up the great work and Good Luck with everything you do.  Hope to hear from you again soon.  Have a Happy, Healthy, and Safe New Year!
Take care and God Bless You!

Love,
Roger

Dear Ashley,

Getting the role of 'Jack Temple' in "Child Star" was a dream come true! The day I got told I got the role I was so excited. I was given a great opportunity I will remember forever.  Being able to work with some great people like Nadia Tass, the Hart family, Colin Friels, Connie Britton, Mark Mitchell and yourself, was just amazing! It was a fantatic experience and I will treasure it for years.  Acting a member of the Temple family was an absolute honour, and I have become a huge fan of Shirley Temple! Hopefully one day we will star in another movie together!

Love always, James Barkley

Hi Ashley!

I saw most of your Shirley Temple movie, not all of it, but I must tell from what I did see you did a fabulous job. This probably sounds just like the rest of your fan mail, doesn't it? Heehee...
I was looking in the Celebrity Photos section of your webpage, and I saw that you look very different from how you looked in the movie! It's amazing how much you look like the real Shirley Temple in the movie, and acted like her so well! Was it tough to get that distinctive voice Shirley has? Or that giggle? Did you already know how to tap dance, or did you learn just for the movie?

My friend Sarah e-mailed you just recently, and she was so thrilled to get a reply from you! She has bought tap shoes and now wants to take lessons, and I think you were her inspiration! She already has a large part of your tap dances memorized, just by watching your movie..! She was kind of disappointed to hear that your curls were a wig, lol! She has been trying to get her curls exactly like yours. Also, she wants to make your red polka-dotted dress and be Shirley for Halloween! How's that for a fan, eh?
Is this your first big break? Or have you acted in other movies? It must be wonderful to be getting all this praise and to have that kind of talent. Everyone is always telling me how talented I am, but I've never been Shirley Temple! I would love to become a singer, or even an actress, but unfortunately I suffer from stage fright. Ooh, it's awful!
Well, I wish I could write so much more and we could become friends, but I won't take up your time any longer.! Please e-mail me back if you get the chance, I know you have so many more to read, it must get tiring. If you don't, I'll understand, but I'd love to hear from you!!
Talk to you later,
Love,
Elizabeth Sawyer
(13 yrs. old, Connecticut)

Hi Ashley!
-My name is Ashley, too. I am 11, and I thought you were excellent in the Shirley Temple Movie! My sister and I thought you were super! As a matter of fact, Shirley has some competition after seeing your outstanding performance.
My favorite part of the movie, was when Shirley was filming a movie, when she was singing to the guy that was dying...That part was so sad, and you did that part great. That is great that you were already an actress on broadway, before the Shirley Temple movie! I can't wait til you come out with more movies!

Dear Ashley,
Hello! I am having a good week thank you. It has been very rainy and cold though this week. How is the weather over where you are? I wish that you lived in Australia! You were so nice at Child Star! Thank you for keeping in
touch
Love Sarah

Dear Donna
Graeme & Vicky Horne from the Australian Shirley Temple Collectors News
(ASTCN) and the Australian Dolly & Teddy Diary.
We were introduced to yourself and Ashley on set in Melbourne.
A real pleasure and wonderful to be invitied on set for myself in
particular
We don't know when they are to show Child Star in Australia, but hopefully
very soon. Ashley looked great as Shirley and we wish her the best for the
> future. The crew that we spoke with all spoke very highly of Ashley, as
too did fellow actors - Connie Britton, Colin Friels, Mark Mitchell & director
Iain Patterson who we interviewed for the ASTCN. We are in the process of changing our web site - to
www.geocities.com/dollydiary We don't as yet have anything on Ashley on the site- maybe they thought
that we might have something on as we have put some pics of Ashley in the
ASTCN. Disney did promise us some signed  8 x 10 of Ashley so we could give them
as prizes to members in coming issues. It would be great if this could
happen. We certainly  do love Shirley Temple & we will follow Ashley with great interest
so keep us updated, if you are able.Did Ashley get to meet Shirley at all ?
Ashley looked great as Shirley and we wish her the best for the future and we certainly gave the movie a lot of excellent publicity on radio and in the ASTCN in Australia.
Sincerely
Graeme Horne

Ashley --

I hope that you are doing well.  You truly reciprocated Shirley's talent for making the audience forget their cares for an hour or two, provoking more than your fair share of smiles.  I trust that you will get to share this faculty with an even greater audience in the years to come, whether it be at the cinema or at home on the Broadway stage.

>When I was 5 years old, I went to theater camp and loved it! The most wonderful thing about theater camps is bestowing the gift of theater onto another generation, or even just kids a few years younger than myself.  While none of my little campers have made it as far as you have --understandably, as you have a unique and extraordinary talent -- they are the ones that will make theater of the future possible.

Jillian mentioned that you are doing a reading of the new musical, Dorian. Is that the one with Sutton Foster?  I can't quite remember.  I think itpremiered at Goodspeed last year.

For simple recognition: it must take you hours to respond to all of the letters you get.  It requires real stamina.  You're a trooper.  I once tried answering fanmail for Cassidy [Ladden] (not as Cassidy, *for* Cassidy
-- at Cassidy's request), and ate away at so much energy.

Best of luck to you in all of your future endeavors,
Jenn

Dear Ashley Orr,

Just wanted to remark on what a talented actress you are and to keep up with the excellent work. I'll look forward to seeing you with an oscar in the next ten years. You remind me so much of Shirley Temple, and I believe you are the next Shirley Temple, in a way. I just have a few questions.

How tall were you when making the movie? Do you think you look like Shirley Temple? Hopefully you can answer these. You are an outstanding girl and actress! Keep on singing and dancing!

Sincerely, Ali

Where do we get her CD's?  Please tell me the location nearest to me where I
may purchase them.   I live in Fairfield County, CT.  Thank you.

Dear Ashley,

Congratulations on a wonderful job in the Shirley Temple movie.  I also saw you as Gretl on Broadway.  I ran the international Annie fan club for 15 years, but I also love The Sound of Music, having been a school music teacher
for many years.  I'm also a frequent poster about Annie history on Long John Silver's Annie Forum.
The part of Shirley Temple I liked best was when Shirley and Bill Robinson were dancing up the staircase.
Congratulations again, and lots of luck and continued success in your career.
Best wishes,

Jon Merrill

Dear Ashley,

Thank you very much for your inspiration.  In my last letter I forgot to tell you that tonight I had an audition at my dance school.  It was for a tap class.  The class is a company class.  Company classes are the best classes
in my dance school.  They only pick the top kids.  Well great news; I got called back for a better and advanced class!!!!  At the begining I was very nervous.  But I calmed my self down by thinking of Shirley Temple Black and
you and your beautiful tap dancing!!!!  You two are my lucky charms!!!!  Now when I go to all auditions I'll think of the two of you!!!!  Also,  I forgot to tell you that I am 12 years old, and I live in New York.
Love to all!!
Your Friend,
~*Hayley*~

Hi Ashley,

My name is Nicole.  I am 9 years old.  I watched your movie and you are so good.  You are just like the real Shirly Temple.  You dance like her and sing like her and you even have her giggle.  What was the hardest thing to do in
the movie?  I'll bet it was learning all that tap dancing.  wow!  You are so cool!  I wish I had your talent.  Right now, I am rehearsing for Oliver but I have done Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast, Wiz of Oz, You're a good man
Charlie Brown, and Little Shop of Horrors.  My dream is to be in a movie or broadway one day.  It must be so cool to do the things you've done.  Well, I gotta run.  Keep doing great work!

Hi Ashley,

Thank you for your kind reply!  I just wanted to tell you that I saw "Child Star" on Sunday and it was incredible.  You did such a great job.  You have a really awesome voice - I LOVED "Auld Lang Syne!"  It was perfect.   You're agreat actress... it must have been hard to play a five year old when you're ten!!  But you did a really good job with it, and you will definately go far in your career.

Best of luck,
Lauren :o)
